Thermodynamically consistent cardiac action potential modelling

Masters Project

We are looking for a talented ME student to take an existing collection of individually validated models of the constituent pieces of a heart cell and assemble them into a comprehensive cardiac cellular model. By testing that model against the many existing models available in our standardized model repository we will demonstrate why it is crucial for our computational models to obey the same fundamental physical laws that govern the environment in which our hearts beat. In doing so, we will also seek to determine the circumstances in which various assumptions may be made to improve computational performance without sacrificing physical plausibility.

Desired skills

  • A keen interest in computational modelling
  • Some familiarity with Python or other scripting languages would be advantageous.
