What you can study
Choose from arts, business and economics, creative arts and industries, education and social work, engineering, law, medical and health sciences, and science with more than 30 undergraduate programmes.
In practical terms, this means:
- We are a community of over 2400 Māori students and over 400 Māori staff.
- Over 600 Māori students completed their qualification in 2022.
- We have five Māori led research entities.

We also have specific options for Māori students including:
- Undergraduate Targeted Admission Scheme (UTAS).
- For medical and health sciences students, the Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme.
- For engineering students, the Māori and Pasifika Targeted Entry Scheme (MAPTES).
Preparation and transition programmes
If you aren't offered a place at the University, you can still study towards your desired programme.
- Whapiki Ake
The Whakapiki Ake Project engages with rangatahi Māori enrolled in secondary schools to promote health as a career. - Hikitia Te Ora - Certificate in Health Sciences
This is one-year programme is specifically for Māori or Pacific students wanting to study for health professions. - New Start
New Start is a part-time preparation and bridging programme for those over 20 thinking of university study. - The University of Auckland Tertiary Foundation Certificate (TFC)
This full-time, one-year programme covers subjects from Arts and Science that will prepare you for University study. It is primarily targeted at students who have not met the entry requirements for University Entrance and are under 20. - Tōia ki Waipapa
UThis programme for Māori students offers an on-campus experience with culturally appropriate learning support to help you take your studies to the next level in the summer following Yr 13.
