Programme overview

The Business School’s Bachelor of Property is a specialist degree that prepares you for a range of careers in the property sector.

You will gain skills and knowledge in property valuation. marketing, management, finance and investment, development, construction, building surveying and property technology.

The programme has strong links to the property industry, and you will develop professional connections right from the start. You will be mentored by a senior property professional in the BProp’s successful buddy programme and have industry networking opportunities throughout the programme.

You can also study the BProp as a conjoint degree with Commerce.

Programme structure

The BProp is a three-year degree programme. You will need to complete 24 courses (360 points).

In your first year, you will complete an integrated set of core courses, experiencing the multi-disciplinary environment that businesses operate in, as well as one introductory course in Property. You will also complete the Waipapa Taumata Rau core course.

BProp core courses

The second and third years comprise more specialised property courses, including valuation, finance and investment, economics, law, land use planning and controls, marketing, development, management, and building construction.

In your third year, you will complete a capstone course, which will give you an opportunity to apply your skills and knowledge in a practical context and build a portfolio that can be shown to prospective employers.

The degree is accredited by the Valuers Registration Board, providing a pathway for registration as a valuer in New Zealand. It fulfils the academic requirements for membership of professional bodies such as Property Institute of New Zealand, Real Estate Institute of New Zealand and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (UK).

Secondary school qualifications

You need to have one of the following:

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24.
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level. You must have completed a minimum of three A-Level subjects. 
  • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). You must have completed a minimum of three A-level subjects.

GCE ‘A’ Level requirements apply to ‘A’ Level qualifications examined by bodies such as AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC, CCEA and Pearson Education Limited taken outside of New Zealand.

Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $8.88 per point, estimated at $1,065.60 for full-time study (120 points). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.
