Getting to City Campus
1. What are the best ways to get to the City Campus on public transport?
There are large number of buses and trains that come into Auckland City, some of them arrive and depart from around the City Campus. For more details on public transport options, please see the Auckland Transport Journey Planner.
2. Where can I park my car?
There are several car parks and on street parking meters on and around City Campus which students and visitors can pay for on a casual basis. There are a variety of Council and privately run car parking buildings all within easy walking distance of City Campus. Click here for on-campus and other parking options and information.
3. Will I be able to store my bike securely at the City Campus?
Yes, there are several secure bike stores located around the City Campus, close to the faculty's buildings. Read more about bike storage, including where the bike stores are located on City Campus.
4. Will I be able to charge my e-bike or e-scooter at the City Campus?
Yes, as the bike facilities are upgraded around the City Campus, power sockets are being included within the secure storage facilities.
City Campus facilities
1. Are there gender-neutral toilets at the City Campus?
Gender-neutral washrooms are being included as buildings are being redeveloped. There are gender-neutral toilets in the Engineering building (B405) and they are included in the redeveloped B201 and will be in place when the faculty moves to the City Campus. Gender-neutral toilets will have “Toilet” signage on the door.
2. Where can I work out?
The temporary Recreation Centre is on Stanley St pending the opening of the new multi storey Recreation Centre planned for opening later in 2024. Click here for information on the Recreation Centre development.
3. Where can I get lunch?
There are loads of options on City Campus. Click here to find out more.
If you want to bring your own lunch, kitchen spaces for heating food are available in B201 and Kate Edgar Student Commons.
4. What social, fun things are there to do on City Campus?
There are over 200 student run clubs and societies for students to join on City Campus. Check out student life here.
City Campus also has the Unleash Space with fantastic resources in the Maker Space for students to channel their creativity under the guidance of experts.
5. What other spaces are there at City Campus?
There's a variety of spaces catering for the needs of different groups. On City Campus you can access the Queer Space, Women’s Space and Cultural Spaces. For information on the Maclaurin chapel visit here and for other denomination prayer rooms here.
About the move from Epsom Campus
1. Why is the faculty moving to City Campus?
In recent years, the University has signalled its intention to relocate the Faculty of Education and Social Work from Epsom to the City Campus. This move is a part of the University’s long-term strategy to consolidate its central Auckland sites and to invest in the development of Te Papa Ako o Tai Tonga, South Auckland Campus, and the upgrade of the Te Papa Ako o Tai Tokerau, Tai Tokerau Campus.
The University is committed to providing Faculty of Education and Social Work students with an excellent learning, teaching and study environment in the city. The move will provide a comprehensive University experience to our students, bringing greater and easier access to support services and student clubs, societies and amenities that are concentrated on the City Campus.
2. Is Epsom Campus going to be sold?
A decision about the future of Epsom Campus is distinct from the relocation of the Faculty of Education and Social Work from Epsom to the City Campus.
However, the University is evaluating future options for the land and buildings, following the planned relocation of the faculty. The University is committed to keeping our students, staff, neighbours, and other stakeholders informed as the future of the site is considered.
3. When are we moving?
The relocation of the Faculty of Education and Social Work from Epsom Campus to the City Campus will begin in November 2023, in readiness for teaching in 2024.
4. What is happening to the marae on Epsom Campus?
The wharenui, Tūtahi Tonu, will be re-established on City Campus. It will be located alongside Te Puna Wānanga in Building 113. The wharekai, Te Piringa, will be provided, as will bathrooms. Together these will continue to function as marae space for the faculty.
5. Will our EDSW building locations on City Campus be further apart that we currently are at Epsom Campus?
No, our building locations are closer together, right in the middle of the City Campus in Sector 100 and 200. Old Choral Hall (B104) will not be ready for us until early 2025 so there are some temporary locations which you can see in the below map and the table below also.
6. Where will my school / lecturers be located?
Faculty Academic and Professional Staff will be in four different locations, as shown in the map below.
7. Where can I find my classrooms in the new B201 building?

8. Where can I find EDSW programme leaders, student support and teaching spaces on City Campus?

9. Can students go and have a look round our new locations?
All students are welcome on City Campus at any time. From mid-late October 2023 the faculty will organise tours for current students to familiarise you with the new locations and with the City Campus more generally, for example the retail and study facilities available to all students.

1. What’s going to happen to the Sylvia Ashton-Warner Library and library and student hubs services when the faculty moves to City Campus?
The Sylvia Ashton-Warner Library will close at the end of Monday 13 November. Read more about library and student hubs services here.
The Sylvia Ashton-Warner Library at Tai Tokerau will remain in its current location.
Artworks and Artefacts
1. Will the University take away the faculty art collection?
No. The faculty’s art collection was developed before the amalgamation of the Auckland College of Education (ACE) and the University of Auckland. Since amalgamation, the ACE collection has been integrated into the wider university collection, along with other artworks at City, Grafton and Tamaki campuses.
