Leave a lasting gift
A gift in your will is a unique living gift, one which reflects your own interests, passion and vision for our nation’s future health, and one which will continue to keep these passions and visions alive long into the future.
Your legacy to excellence in teaching, research and service
When the time comes to think about your estate plans, you may consider how a gift in your will could create a special philanthropic partnership that reflects your interests and values as they relate to our mission to improve the health and lives of New Zealanders.
Over many years, support from gifts in wills has played an important role in our pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and service. As well as playing a pivotal role in producing the next generation of medical professionals, we are New Zealand’s largest provider of medical and biomedical research. We work at the cutting edge of basic research, at the interface with commercial biotechnology, in clinical care settings and in the community.
Be assured that a confidential telephone or email enquiry will be met with a response that is prompt, personalised, concise and outcome-focused. We would be delighted to assist you in defining how the University would apply your gift to reflect what is important to you. We welcome your directives specifying how the funds are to be distributed, the process of distribution, the recipient criteria and the type of expenditure. You simply outline your objectives and intentions and we then provide information on relevant options to ensure that the outcomes achieved as a result of your generosity are indeed meaningful to you.
The wording of your will
Should you kindly decide to include a gift to teaching and research in medical and health sciences at Auckland at some time, our suggestion for the wording of your will would be:
“I give and bequeath to theThe University of Auckland Medical and Health Sciences Foundation (CC30871) $ [a specific dollar amount];
Or
[A specific percentage] of my estate;
Or
[The whole or a specific percentage] of the residue of my estate;
Or
[Describe precisely the item of property],
Free from all duties and charges, as a contribution to The University of Auckland Medical and Health Sciences Foundation to be applied to (*purpose) for which the receipt of the The University of Auckland Medical and Health Sciences Foundation shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees.”
*This short phrase could simply describe the type of recipient, programme or academic discipline you wish to direct your gift to. We recommend that for specific wishes this becomes “The [donor/family/friend’s name] [Scholarship/Fellowship/Research] fund”.
