Who are University alumni?
The University’s alumni network ecompasses over 170,000 graduates spread across the Auckland region, throughout New Zealand, and around the globe.
Ranging from new graduates to “Golden Graduates” – those who have been Auckland alumni for 50 years or more – our alumni and friends can be found in a diverse range of fields, including: business, engineering, science, medicine, education, law, the arts, creative arts and theology.
Everyone who graduates from the University of Auckland becomes an alumni. There are no fees to pay or paperwork to complete.
Who are friends of the University?
If you have become involved with the University through attending events, working here, supporting us, or participating in one of our networks, then we consider you a ‘friend’ of the University.
Alumni Relations and Development Office
Alumni Relations and Development comprises the Alumni Relations Office and the Development Office.
Based in University House on Princes Street – once the first Synagogue in Auckland – the team provides events, communications, research, writing, and web management services.
The prime focus of Alumni Relations and Development is to nurture mutually beneficial relationships with alumni, donors, and friends who share our vision for the future of the University and its contribution to the betterment of humankind.
Alumni Relations and Development also manages the valuable Hood and Seelye Fellowships for outward-bound and visiting academics.
The University of Auckland Foundation
Alumni Relations and Development is home to the University of Auckland Foundation. The Foundation is an independent, registered charitable organisation that manages and invests the philanthropic funds donated to the University, the Foundation, and the School of Medicine Foundation.

Can we change the future together?
Philanthropy has a transformative effect on the University of Auckland’s ability to deliver high-quality teaching and research programmes directed at solving major issues both nationally and worldwide.
These are being addressed through the University’s 'For All Our Futures’ campaign, a fundraising initiative that seeks answers to many of New Zealand’s most pressing problems, such as:
- Can we earthquake-proof New Zealand?
- Can we prepare our students for the 21st century of work?
- Can we redefine old age?
- Can we restore our unique natural environment?
