Programme overview

This conjoint degree has a strong practical focus, ensuring that you'll be ready for a career in engineering, business and leadership.

Your BCom starts with a set of integrated and interdisciplinary core courses to extend your understanding of how business fits together, to develop your applied skills and to complement specialist knowledge from your major.

The BE(Hons) provides you with the option to pursue one of nine specialisations available the Engineering faculty. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the technical, practical, and theoretical knowledge it takes to become an innovator in exciting industries.

This programme provides you with a combination of business and engineering knowledge – a unique skillset that's highly desired by employers.

Programme structure

You will need to complete a total of 690 points, with 255 points from Bachelor of Commerce courses, 420 points from Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) courses and the 15-point Waipapa Taumata Rau first year course.

Programme structure differs depending on the Engineering specialisation you choose from Part II onwards. To find out more about how to structure your Engineering study, see conjoint degrees.

During your BCom study you will complete a set of six Stage I core courses, a Business Consulting course, and a Capstone course. After completing the Stage I core, you will choose a major with a focus on your future career. If you choose two majors for BCom component, you may exceed 255pts and prolong your degree completion.

BCom core courses

All students completing a conjoint are encouraged to contact Student Hubs to discuss their study options in terms of prerequisite requirements and the higher workload of conjoint courses.

You will need to maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.5 across your courses to continue with a conjoint degree.

Undergraduate students completing a BCom/BE(Hons) generally take nine courses per year, one more course than a non-conjoint bachelors programme.

In order to complete your conjoint in five years, you will have to undertake a full-time, heavier workload of 135 points a year.

Most students need to take one General Education course.

Students should also be aware of the University’s Academic English Language Requirement.

For all official programme information, including regulations about entry, enrolment, fees, examinations, and requirements for degrees, diplomas and certificates, see the University Calendar.
