Programme overview

By adding this one-year, advanced postgraduate qualification to your existing Bachelor of Education (Teaching) you will enhance your ability to make a difference to other people and improve your career outcomes.

You will be able to explore any burning questions, developing your knowledge through research and study alongside expert academics who have years of experience in their field.

Both the taught and research options will allow you to choose an area to explore more intensively, adding depth to your bachelors degree. You will also be given the opportunity to carry out a supervised research project in your area of interest.

Study the Inclusive Education specialisation

One in four people in Aotearoa has a disability. This diversity is now represented in local early childhood settings and schools and teachers are expected to have the conceptual, culturally responsive and applied knowledge base needed to teach in inclusive environments.

In this specialisation, you’ll develop advanced knowledge and capabilities in inclusive practices to support diverse learners in educational settings. You’ll also extend your research skills through an inquiry-based approach and gain the skills and knowledge needed to take leading roles in effective planning, coordination and management of projects and in professional learning.

Programme structure

With our BEd(Tchg)(Hons) you have the choice to either pursue an area you're passionate about individually, or become part of a research group (cohort) with a common theme, where you can personalise your research question to your area of interest.

You can choose to do the Research Portfolio option: 60-point supervised research portfolio and 60 points in courses; or the Taught Course option: 30-point research project and 90 points in courses.

Note: Completion of an approved 30 point research methods course is a prerequisite to enrolling in a research portfolio or research project.
