Smokefree and Vapefree Policy
Application
This policy applies to all University members and visitors.
Purpose
To provide a smokefree and vapefree environment across all University campuses and facilities.
Policy
1. No-one is to smoke or vape on any campus or when in or on any facility unless smoking or vaping is carried out for experimental or research purposes under conditions and terms laid down by the University's Human Participants' Ethics Committee.
2. Where reasonably within their control, members are expected to take such steps to ensure that a visitor is aware of, and complies with, the requirements of this policy. Such steps may include requesting a visitor not to smoke or vape, or asking a visitor to leave any campus or facility should they wish to smoke or vape.
3. Where reasonably practicable, contracts involving access to the University must include a provision which, in effect, imposes an obligation on the contracting party to comply with this policy.
Definitions
The following definitions apply to this document:
Campus includes any and all land or interests in land or buildings owned, leased, licensed, occupied or used by the University.
Contracts includes grants of lease, licences or occupation rights.
Facilities includes any and all physical locations, grounds, buildings and vehicles administered by the University.
Members means members of the University and includes members of Council, Council committees and other committees, students, staff members, and the staff and board members of any University subsidiary.
Smoke and smoking have the meaning set out in s2 Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990
Vape and vaping have the meaning set out in s2 Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990
University means the University of Auckland and includes all subsidiaries.
Visitor means any person who is not a member but who is on or in a campus or facility.
