Research Committee

Purpose

Research Committee is responsible for overseeing and supporting the research activities of the University and ensuring that these are of the highest quality, relevant, and ethical. Research Committee also has a responsibility to ensure that the research conducted at the University is sensitive to and incorporates the perspectives of Māori and upholds the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Terms of reference

Research Committee:

  • Reviews, develops and implements policies and procedures to support the research activities of the university, ensuring that Māori perspectives are incorporated.
  • Oversees and facilitates the achievement of the University’s research related Key Performance Indicators and strategic priorities.
  • Oversees and facilitates the successful performance of the University Research Centres, including ensuring access to appropriate university resources necessary to conduct activities effectively.
  • Promotes and supports research excellence, including the advancement of relevant and impactful research.
  • Promotes and supports open research practices, whilst upholding Māori data sovereignty.
  • Promotes and supports the incorporation of Mātauranga Māori into research practices, including Māori concepts and methods, translation and interpretation of research findings, consideration of ethical implications, and acknowledgment of the contributions of Māori knowledge and culture.
  • Facilitates collaboration and partnerships with external communities and organisations, to ensure research is relevant and responsive to societal needs, and to advance the impact of research.
  • Promotes and supports transdisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Provides advice to the University’s Executive Committee on research matters and report to Senate on the committee's activities and recommendations.
