Transnational Education

Models of transnational education collaboration with the University of Auckland

The University of Auckland is actively engaging with the development of the following models of transnational education (TNE) collaboration. The majority of these models are formalised credit transfer arrangements with partner universities overseas, whereby the University effectively gives an assurance that students reaching certain standards will be permitted to transfer credit to specified programmes at the University of Auckland.

Dual Masters (DMAs)

Students undertake coursework requirements for their master’s study at overseas partner university and then undertake a one-year taught or research master’s study at the University of Auckland. Successful candidates would graduate with master’s degrees from both the home university and the University of Auckland.

Undergraduate Articulation     

Students complete an agreed number of years of bachelor’s study at overseas partner university and upon meeting academic and language requirements, receive direct entry into the University of Auckland bachelor’s study with recognized credits. Successful candidates would graduate with bachelor’s degrees from both the home university and the University of Auckland.

Postgraduate Articulation

Students complete an agreed number of years of bachelor’s study at overseas partner university and upon meeting academic and language requirements, receive guaranteed entry into the University of Auckland master’s study. Successful candidates would graduate with bachelor’s degree from home university and master’s degree from the University of Auckland.

Foundation/Pathway

Students complete foundation study at overseas partner institution and receive guaranteed entry into the University of Auckland bachelor’s degree. No credit transfer into the University of Auckland bachelor’s degree. 

Offshore Joint Programmes

Teaching of the University of Auckland undergraduate course content of a specified programme at an offshore partner university. Students complete an agreed number of years of bachelor’s study and articulate into the University of Auckland award. External approval is required from foreign country government agencies.
