Our Volunteer Alumni Coordinator in Wellington is Loretta Mamea.
VAC profile: Loretta Mamea (Bachelor of Arts)
Loretta began studying a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Political Science and Geography at the University in 2000. After completing her undergraduate degree, she pursued her masters in Geography and graduated with First Class Honours in 2006.
While studying, Loretta worked in various roles at the University. These included being a Student Ambassador/Advisor for the Faculty of Arts and a Student Assistant for the School of Geography and Environmental Science (now the School of Environment). She also tutored for both departments.Loretta was the recipient of a University Graduate Scholarship, a New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade scholarship and an Auckland Council Queen Elizabeth II scholarship.
After graduating, she worked in the Auckland Policy Team of Housing New Zealand before heading to Wellington in mid-2012. She took on a Senior Policy Analyst role within the Biosecurity Readiness and Response Team in the Ministry for Primary Industries.
Loretta now works as a public servant across multiple ministries. Principally, she works for the Implementation and Behaviour Change team in the Water Directorate at the Ministry of the Environment, and for the Policy and Trade branch of the Ministry for Primary Industries.
In her spare time, Loretta enjoys giving back to her local community. She loves mentoring young people and is the chairperson of the newly established Wellington branch of New Zealand Asian Leaders.
