“After working as a consultant physician at Wellington Hospital, I’m currently taking time out of clinical practice to work on my second book. I’m also developing a small private practice offering professional supervision. I love working independently, because it gives me the freedom to pursue creative interests while at the same time maintaining a connection with my professional life.

"Having seen a need for increased uptake of professional, or ‘non-clinical’, supervision particularly within the medical profession, I decided to train in professional supervision. I was looking for an academically robust programme that would take me beyond the confines of the medical model, and the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Supervision, with its interdisciplinary emphasis, was a good match.

The block courses were the clear highlight of the programme. The connections I made in class, with students from a variety of backgrounds, were meaningful and valuable.

“The didactic element of the course content was balanced with small-group discussions and exercises. Video assignments gave us the opportunity to demonstrate the skills we’d learned during the course and have our practice critique. These were, although potentially scary, valuable opportunities to give and receive feedback from both course tutors and other students.

“In order to begin offering professional supervision I needed a combination of academic knowledge, practical skills and a recognised qualification, and the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Supervision has given me all of these. It was an essential foundation to my ongoing practice in this area."
