Moving and Handling Training (Manual Handling)

This interactive and practical workshop is designed to raise awareness of how injuries can occur, their impact on our lives, and how we can reduce risks.

Aim

It will enable attendees to assess and find solutions to their specific moving and handling work-related tasks and how to make safe and efficient decisions when faced with a handling risk. Methods for preparing and restoring the body movements before and after tasks are also included.

By the end of this session participants will be able to:
  • Cause and effect of injury
  • Health & Safety obligations in practice
  • Injury prevention measures
  • Principles of safe handling
  • Applying safe handling technique to work tasks
  • Risk assessment - what, when and how
  • Action plans for handling issues
  • Safe handling techniques
  • Warm-ups and pre and post-activity stretches

Suitability

All staff who are required to lift, carry, or move objects

Facilitator

A cofounding member of the Manual Handling Association of NZ (MHANZ) and a registered member of the Health & Safety Association of NZ (HASANZ)

Cost

  • $600 per 90-minute session - Min: 7 attendees & Max: 10 attendees
  • $100 travel and parking cost per site visit
  • $160 additional charge if the session takes place after 1700hrs
  • All above costs are exclusive of GST

Cancellation and enrolment information

Please send an email to UoA HSW team at hsw@auckland.ac.nz with some date/time options to get a session organised. 6 weeks’ notice is required for a session to be organised

Cancelling training sessions within five working days of the scheduled date will incur full payment
