The contribution that Career Development and Employability Services (CDES) and other careers teams across the University of Auckland are making to develop the employability of university students has recently been recognised with three accolades.

For the second year in a row, the University of Auckland’s careers service was named Best Careers Service at the New Zealand Association of Graduate Employers (NZAGE) Industry Awards in November 2024. The team won the accolade in 2023, 2021 and 2020 too. In addition, CDES Employer Engagement and Careers Team Lead Kate Coley won the Best Careers Service Professional 2024, jointly with Rachael Marsters, Auckland University of Technology.

It’s wonderful for us to be recognised for the important work we do to increase the employability of our students. I’m grateful to colleagues working across the universities and early careers sector in New Zealand. It’s great to have such a collaborative and supportive network to champion and support early career talent. Ultimately, it leads to better outcomes for our students – which is what we're all here for.

Kate Coley, CDES Team Leader University of Auckland

The CDES team support all current University of Auckland students and graduates (up to three years after graduation) to develop the skills and connections needed to enter the world of work. The team offers online career learning modules, a schedule of in-person workshops, a popular CV and cover letter checking service, numerous career expos and recruitment events and a student job board.

In addition, specialist careers teams offer tailored services to students and employers in the Business School, Auckland Law School and the Faculty of Engineering.

The New Zealand Association of Graduate Employers (NZAGE) is a national not-for-profit body established in 2011 to develop and improve the early talent recruitment industry in New Zealand, with the mission of educating and supporting New Zealand organisations to deliver world class early careers programmes.

Since the NZAGE Awards, the Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (GEURS) 2025 has been released, which confirms the impact the University’s careers teams have been making to employability outcomes for students.

In a challenging global and local employment market, it’s increasingly important for us to deliver high quality employability and careers support for our tauira. We’re happy to be recognised for the work we do with our colleagues and employer partners and proud to be helping our graduates succeed in the global job market.

Sarah Moyne, CDES Manager University of Auckland

The University of Auckland is ranked No 1 in New Zealand and 89 in the world in GEURS 2025, published exclusively by Times Higher Education (THE).

GEURS is the only ranking based exclusively on international employers' point of view and is currently the most consulted ranking for employability by employers worldwide.
