University of Auckland researchers have been honoured as Ngā Ahurei a Te Apārangi Fellows in recognition of their outstanding contributions to research excellence.

Seven leading researchers from Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland have been named as Ngā Ahurei a Te Apārangi Fellows by the Royal Society Te Apārangi.

Fellowship recognises researchers, scholars and innovators throughout Aotearoa New Zealand who have achieved excellence both nationally and globally in their various disciplines across science, technology and the humanities.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater said the University’s success is driven by the talent and dedication of its researchers, whose contributions continue to drive innovation and positive change in Aotearoa and around the world.

“The University takes great pride in the election of these new Fellows. This recognition demonstrates the calibre of research that defines our university and reflects their hard work and commitment.”

The seven Fellows are:

  • Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, for being an international leader in the field of neuro-ophthalmic disorders.

  • Professor Charles Clifton, Faculty of Engineering and Design, for significantly advancing the engineering practices for designing complex steel and composite steel structures.
