Candidate: Charlie Matthews
Read why Charlie Matthews would like to represent students on the University of Auckland Council.
Kia ora, I'm Charlie, and I am excited to work towards greater student engagement and empowerment at the University of Auckland. I firmly believe in the need for a fresh, robust, and supportive student voice at the highest level of the University. That's why I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Student Representative.
During my three-year journey at the University of Auckland, I have immersed myself in various aspects of the University's diverse campus life. I've worked, thrown myself into multiple student clubs and represented students at the faculty level. These experiences have consistently underscored the pressing need for more robust student representation. In every role, I've seen a common thread: students often feel that their voices go unheard in the University's decision-making processes. It's high time we transform our campus into an inclusive environment where every student can flourish in learning, research, and work and every member of our community of learners can have their voices heard. Realising this goal is where I see the vital importance of the Student Representative role.
If elected, I'm committed to being the resounding voice that champions your concerns, working tirelessly with the University Council to deliver the tangible progress every student deserves. My diverse array of roles inside and outside the University has honed my skills in organisation, collaboration, effective communication, and more, effectively equipping me to embark on this role. I have seen and lived students' struggles in various capacities and can effectively champion change for you within the Council environment. More than this, being a Student Representative isn't about fleeting appearances every election season. I pledge to be there for you, listen, understand your needs, and vigorously advocate on your behalf. I'm not just your representative during the campaign but a steadfast advocate throughout the year.
I understand your time is precious, and you're swamped with academic commitments at this busy time of year. So, I'll keep it brief. Remember, together, we can bring about the change we seek. Vote Charlie for a better university future.
