Read why Odonzaya Ayurzana would like to represent students on the University of Auckland Council.
The Student Representative on Council is an opportunity to build bridges—between students and administration, between the academic community and the broader society. As an experienced and mature Human Resources professional currently pursuing a PhD at the Business School of the University of Auckland, I am eager to contribute my skills, knowledge, and passion to this role as it encapsulates the essence of my professional and academic journey. With my educational background of studying in Mongolia, the UK and New Zealand and diverse working experience in various business roles, I am equipped with strategic thinking, consensus decision-making, and conflict resolution skills, which will undoubtedly serve me well in the role of a student representative.
I added below how my contributions will enhance the University in key areas—teaching and research, community understanding, management skills, and reflecting the diversity of the community served.
- Teaching and Research: My journey as a full-time PhD student has honed my research acumen and deepened my appreciation for the critical role that teaching, and research play in shaping the academic landscape. I will continue to bring this perspective to the Council's discussions.
- Community Understanding: My extensive experience as an organisation development and human resources professional has equipped me with the skills to empathetically engage with diverse stakeholders with perspectives of understanding of their needs, concerns, and aspirations. I will actively seek feedback from students, faculty, and staff, ensuring that the Council remains attuned to the ever-evolving needs of our academic community.
- Management Skills: My professional journey with management roles has been characterised by roles that demand strategic thinking, consensus decision-making, and effective management. These skills, honed over years of practice, will be invaluable in the Council's deliberations and driving initiatives forward. I commit to participating in and facilitating productive Council meetings, fostering a culture of open communication, and ensuring that the Council's decisions are translated into impactful actions that benefit our university student community.
- Reflecting Diversity: As an individual with a minority background and a strong commitment to inclusivity, I pledge to champion diversity and equity in all Council activities. I will advocate for initiatives celebrating our community's varied perspectives, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued towards a more inclusive university environment.
In conclusion, if elected, I will dedicate my energy, skills, and passion to ensure that the student voice remains at the heart of our university’s governance. I am ready to embrace its challenges and opportunities by working collaboratively with my fellow students, faculty, and administration to foster an environment of transparency, inclusivity, and excellence.
Thank you for considering my candidacy.
