Candidate: Bohan Jia
Read why Bohan Jia would like to represent students on the University of Auckland Council.
My name is Bohan Jia and my English name is Eric Jia. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Marketing and International Business at the Business School of the University of Auckland. In school, I have served (including currently serving) the Class Rep of ACCTG 102, MKTG 203, INTBUS 201, OPSMGT 255. In this role, I work to build and strengthen Bridges between teachers and students, solve challenges in the learning process, and
optimize curriculum content to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
During my tenure, I successfully promoted the discussion of curriculum evaluation and teaching reform, participated in many teacher-student exchange meetings or communicated with course leaders for many times, collected and fed back students' opinions, and directly promoted the improvement of teaching methods and learning resources. Through these efforts, we not only improve the quality of teaching, but also enhance students' satisfaction and engagement with the content they are learning.
In terms of community service, I support and enrich the life of our community through practical actions. During the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2023, I acted as one of the main volunteers to carry out cultural exchange activities, through which the students strengthened their ties with the Chinese community in Auckland. In 2024, my involvement in the organization of the Auckland World Choir Competition provided a platform for promoting cultural diversity and artistic exchange, which not only enriched the cultural life of the community, but also provided students with the opportunity to showcase their talents.
I was also awarded a Principal Interview NZ $2,500 scholarship for excellence at the Foundation level (Taylor College, University of Auckland). This is not only a testament to my academic and leadership skills, but also provides me with the opportunity to share my learning and life experiences as a special guest in the college's admissions presentations, attracting more students to join our educational ranks.
The Council of UOA is a key functional body that plays an irreplaceable role in shaping educational policy, overseeing school operations, and promoting community development. Through the Council, we can directly influence the quality of teaching, student services and improvements to campus facilities, ensuring that the decisions of the university reflect the real needs and expectations of the general population of teachers and students. I am eager to join the Council of UOA because I believe that with my experience and passion, I can bring new energy to the development of the university. My goal is to enable our university, through the work of the Council, to remain at the forefront not only in academic research, but also to reach new heights in student support and campus environment. As a member of the Board, I plan to expand these efforts to promote school-wide strategies to ensure equitable distribution of educational resources, enhance the school's social responsibility, and create a more open and inclusive learning environment. Through the Council's platform, I hope to better serve every student, respond to their needs, and bring about long-term positive change on our campus.
