Candidate: Kieran Sullivan
Read why Kieran Sullivan would like to represent students on the University of Auckland Council.
Students make up the core structure of our University. The very foundation of our reputation is continually rejuvenated through the combined efforts of our leaders.
Since serving as the Head Boy at Liston College in 2022, it has been my goal to
provide current, and future peers with the tools to benefit themselves, and their aspirations. Living through the values of the Edmund Rice Tradition helped me build strong student leaders and make positive changes, allowing Liston to stand out amongst the crowd. For these reasons, and the following, I wish to formally apply to be a Student Council Representative in 2024.
“To act justly, love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8
My time at this University has provided me with many opportunities, friends, experiences and achievements, all granted through the assistance and service of the amazing staff and peers who have gone before me. I feel this position would be my way of giving back to the University, and that it would not be possible for me to leave satisfied if I did not strive for it. I believe my presence in the University as a Student Council Representative would not only strengthen myself, but also my fellow peers as we persist to achieve our goals together.
I believe that this position can only be truly fulfilled by somebody who is diligent, confident, persistent, focused, and loyal, all whilst staying true to the values of; respect, compassion, humility, stewardship, faith, and integrity. To be a leader rather than a boss means to inspire enthusiasm, encourage learning, and to be amongst the team instead of on the side-lines.
Throughout my academic journey, I have continually aimed to become involved and dedicated myself to roles such as this. I feel that a competent personal profile allows for a widespread outreach of significant relationships with staff, faculties, and fellow students, hence I am driven to sustain this further. I will advocate for innovative teaching methods and support research initiatives that enhance our academic environment. Moreover, I believe in the power of a strong, inclusive community. I will work to bridge gaps between diverse groups within the University, ensuring every voice is heard and valued. My goal is to promote a sense of belonging and mutual respect among all members of our community. I believe it is crucial that this representation reflects diversity. I am committed to advocating for policies and practices that support inclusivity and equity, ensuring that our community remains vibrant and dynamic.
Just as I once looked to the heights and saw giants, I too wish to influence the same visions. As a Student Council Representative, one of the greatest achievements I could gather would be to inspire and make change to this University. I know that this stimulus would create everlasting generations of leaders who will build upon and uphold the true values and reputation of the University.
I am excited to see what the future holds.
Sincerely,
Kieran Sullivan
