How to apply for special conditions

You may apply for special conditions if you consider your tests and/or exams may be affected in some way by your impairment.

In completing your application, you will be asked:

  • If you have previously had similar support, for example at high school, at the University of Auckland or another tertiary provider.
  • The type of special conditions you would like to request.
  • To provide up-to-date and independent evidence for your application. Appropriate evidence includes:

- An official letter from your school, another tertiary provider or from your qualification awarding body (e.g. NZQA, Cambridge, IB) that provides details about the type of support you have received.

- An official letter from a doctor, therapist, educational psychologist or other appropriate professional that confirms details of your disability, health or learning related impairment(s), and the type of recommended support.

If you have any questions or requires assistance with this form, please contact the Te Papa Manaaki | Campus Care team.

During semester tests

Student Disability Services (SDS) and your faculty work together to coordinate support for your on-campus tests or online tests.

If your approved special conditions include extra time, your faculty will be in touch about your test arrangements. If your approved special conditions include a reader/writer, SDS will get in touch with you via email about this at the beginning of the academic term.

End of semester exams

Once your special conditions application has been approved, Assessment Services will receive notification and will record this information. You will receive an email from Assessment Services confirming your approved special conditions. Please keep this email for future reference.

If your approved special conditions include extra time, it will be added automatically to any end of semester exams. If your approved special conditions include a reader/writer and your end of semester exam is online, Assessment Services will get in touch with you.
