Enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce
Learn how to enrol in your courses for the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) as a single degree or a conjoint degree.
We know that enrolling in your Bachelor of Commerce can be confusing. Enrolling is different depending on whether you are doing the Bachelor of Commerce as a single or conjoint degree. It's also different depending on whether you enrol in courses individually or in a cohort. There are sections for all of these on this page.
When enrolling, we recommend that you:
- Enrol in your courses for both Semester One and Two. This is to avoid missing out on a place in your courses.
- Enrol in Semester One first, then enrol into Semester Two.
- Enrol as soon as you accept your offer of place. This is to avoid missing out on choosing a course time that works best for you.
Please note, you must prioritise completing the Stage I Business Core courses before progressing further in your majors.
You will use Student Services Online to enrol in all of your courses.
Enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce as a single degree
Enrolling in a Bachelor of Commerce as a single degree means that you are only studying for a Bachelor of Commerce and no other degrees.
If you are enrolling in your Bachelor of Commerce for the first time, you will enrol in your courses using Timetable Planner.
Enrolling in courses for your first semester
For your first semester of study, you can choose to enrol in individual courses or enrol in a cohort. Cohort enrolment is a quick and simple way for BCom students to enrol a set of four pre-selected courses, scheduled over two days in a clash-free timetable.
Enrolling in individual courses
You can choose to enrol in your courses individually to create a timetable of your required courses by yourself. This offers you the flexibility to find classes individually that suit your availability, so you can study alongside other commitments.
Step-by-step enrolment:
- Sign into Student Services Online
- Click the 'Enrol' icon, and go to 'Add classes with’
- Choose 'Timetable Planner' and select the semester you want before clicking the green 'Timetable Planner' button
- Click the 'Add Course' button
- Select 'Search By Subject' tab
- Select 'Subject' and 'Course'
- Click 'Add Course'
Enrolling in a cohort
This means that your courses are pre-selected as a package by your faculty to make sure you have a clash-free timetable. When enrolling in a cohort, you will see the same group of students in your lectures, team-based learnings and tutorials for all of your courses.
This encourages you to make connections with the same group of students throughout your first year of study. It also saves time and simplifies your enrolment process. All you need to do is choose a cohort option that best works for you and let the system work out the timetable for your required courses.
Please note, enrolling in a cohort is only available in Semester One for the course we have pre-selected for you. If the cohort option is full, you can choose the other option.

Step-by-step enrolment:
- Sign into Student Services Online
- Click the 'Enrol' icon, and go to 'Add classes with’
- Choose 'Timetable Planner' and select the semester you want before clicking the green 'Timetable Planner' button
- Click the 'Add Course' button and select the 'Search by Cohort' tab
- Under 'Programme', choose your programme 'Bachelor of Commerce
- Under 'Cohort' choose a cohort option. Look for 'BCom Year 1 Group X Option XX'. You will be able to preview the timetable for your chosen cohort option.
- You can view other timetable combinations by choosing different cohort options
- Once you’ve finished, click 'Add'.
Enrolling in courses for your second semester
There is no cohort enrolment option for your second semester of study because students are no longer able to all take the exact same set of four courses. Instead, you will need to enrol in your second semester of study by choosing your individual courses.
Step-by-step enrolment:
- Click the ‘Change’ button and select ‘2025 Semester Two’.
- Click the 'Add Course' button
- Select 'Search By Subject' tab
- Select 'Subject' and 'Course'
- Click 'Add Course'
- Click 'Done' to return to the main page for Timetable Planner
- Click 'Generate Timetables' to see a detailed view of the timetable and click 'View/Submit'
- Click 'Send to Enrolment Cart'
- Accept the Terms and Conditions and click on 'Confirm Enrolment'
Please note:
- If you are transferring from another university and have been approved for a credit transfer of your previously courses, you will need to enrol in your courses individually using the ‘By subject’ tab
- If you are enrolling in your Commerce courses through ‘By subject,’ please make sure you select the Commerce-specific streams. A stream means that the classes have been specifically set aside for students studying a Bachelor of Commerce.
Enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce as a conjoint degree
A conjoint degree consists of two undergraduate programmes. There are 11 conjoint degrees available where you can study a Bachelor of Commerce:
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Design
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Global Studies
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Health Sciences
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Music
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Property
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Science
- Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Sport, Health and Physical Education
Students doing a conjoint programme are encouraged to start both degrees in their first semester. It is normal to take a balance of courses from both degrees in both semesters of your first year.
For the BCom component of the conjoint degree
If you are doing a conjoint programme you will need to enroll in your courses individually.
Prioritise including these two courses in your first semester:
- BUSINESS 111 Understanding Business – 15pts
- WTRBUS 100 Waipapa Taumata Rau – 15pts (Note that students doing a conjoint can also choose from the WTR courses offered by other faculties, and so while this choice might be WTRBUS 100 it could also be another option).
Prioritise including this one course in your second semester:
- BUSINESS 112 Sustainable Growth – 15pts
Please note, you must prioritise completing the Stage I Business Core courses before progressing further in your BCom major(s). In selecting your other courses, consider the advice above for single degree BCom students.
