Academic history
Your academic history is a record of your prior studies. This usually includes your
- Secondary or high school studies
- Foundation studies (if applicable)
- Tertiary studies (if applicable)
When you apply with the University of Auckland, you will enter your academic history as part of your application. This applies if you're a
- First time applicant
- Returning applicant
- Returning student who has studied at another institution before coming back to the University*
*You do not need to declare any study completed at the University of Auckland, including if you've completed the New Start or Tertiary Foundation Certificate programmes.
Incomplete study no longer in progress
If you have completed study towards a qualification, but have not completd it, and it is no longer in progress, you should select 'Complated' and enter the years of study.
Secondary school
If you have completed your studies in New Zealand, please enter the secondary school you completed
- National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA)
- Cambridge International
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
If you have completed your studies overseas, please indicate this in your application.
The University of Auckland has knowledge of overseas secondary school qualifications to make an assessment of your application.
Foundation studies
If you have completed foundation-level studies, you can enter in what programme you did in your application.
Tertiary-level studies
If you have completed your studies in New Zealand or overseas, please enter all study you have completed or attempted in your application. This includes study without any completed or passed courses.

- Certificates (non-foundation)
- Bachelors (Honours)
- Graduate Diplomas
- Postgraduate Certificates
- Postgraduate Diplomas
- Masters
- Doctoral
The University of Auckland has knowledge of overseas tertiary qualifications to make an assessment of your application.
Editing your academic history
Once you have submitted your application you will not be able to change the qualification details which you have declared in your academic history.
This applies if you're a
- First time applicant
- Returning applicant
- Returning student
Please note that your academic history needs to be declared as accurately as possible. We may not be able to alter a qualification record if we have evidence of it being completed.
First time applying or not submitted your application
If you have not applied for your chosen programme(s), you can add any missing academic history by returning to your unsubmitted application before you submit your application.
You will be able to indicate if you can share your documents digitally. For more information, please see Tertiary-level transcripts and certificates.

If you have submitted your application and forgot to include all your academic history, please email us.

- What type of qualification needs updating:
- Secondary
- Foundation
- Tertiary
- The institution you studied at
- The country you studied in
- The name of your qualification
- If your qualification was completed or not
- When you began or started your qualification
- When you finished or completed your qualification (if applicable)
- When you expect to finish or complete your qualification (if applicable)
- What needs updating (if applicable)
