“Coming from a background in water science and technology, I was really impressed with the University's resolve to address the growing global water crisis using sustainable solutions.
“The most exciting aspect about my doctoral study is applying my theoretical knowledge and research skills to a real-world problem. My research involves developing an efficient, low-cost and environmentally friendly technology for water reuse in the dairy industry.
I wanted to be part of a community of scholars and professionals passionate about making a positive impact on the environment, so it made sense to study at the University of Auckland.
“I have valuable access to high-tech research labs with modern analytical facilities. The lab technicians are highly knowledgeable and supportive, and provide excellent guidance and training.
“I feel privileged to work with my supervisors who are experts in the field. On my first day here, my supervisor gave me a welcome note written in my native language, Sinhalese. Being so far from home, this was such a lovely gesture and I felt immediately reassured.
“My scholarship allows me to focus on my research without worrying about finances. It also means I get to work closely with my industry partners at Fonterra, and gain insights into the practical application of laboratory research.
“There are many scholarships available for students across the University, so it’s well worth checking them out.
“With the in-depth knowledge and skills I will gain during my PhD, I look forward to making a positive impact on the world, and this is why I chose the leading university in New Zealand for my postgraduate studies.”
