Alif Hafizi

After graduating from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme from his home of Malaysia, Alif is now studying Computer Systems Engineering under a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons). He is a winner of a Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) scholarship.

As an international student, Alif has found the resources at the University of Auckland to be highly beneficial. "I love the resources that are available around the University such as Wi-Fi, library, and the labs. It is easy for me to access these free amenities to support my studies".

One of the aspects Alif enjoys most about living in Auckland is the convenience of the campus. "I enjoy the variety of shops and amenities which are close to each other, such as cafés, the gym, and retail outlets. I also love that there are a lot of parks for me to relax and unwind after a long day of study".

Alif has embraced the opportunity to explore Auckland in a unique way. "I like to take different buses without any destination because I just want to sightsee all over Auckland." This adventurous approach has allowed him to discover new areas of the city.

Studying at the University of Auckland has had a positive impact on Alif's lifestyle. "I have learnt how to live and eat healthily - I’ve joined the gym, started eating breakfast, and go for an evening stroll rather than just staying at home".

For Alif, experiencing the four seasons in New Zealand has been a surreal and memorable experience. "Coming from Malaysia, Autumn and Spring have been absolutely stunning for me, and I am glad to be able to experience it. If you come from a country that does not have four seasons, bring a variety of clothes with you!"

Looking ahead, Alif plans to continue his studies in the United Kingdom. "My degree from the University can help me secure a spot there." He believes that his degree from the University of Auckland will open doors to further academic opportunities.
