Evelyn Guo

After a couple years' experience working at law firms in her home country of China, Evelyn is now pursuing a Master of Laws to advance her career.

Evelyn chose the University of Auckland for its esteemed reputation and the valuable credentials it offers. The central location and well-equipped environment provide students with numerous academic and practical opportunities, making it an ideal choice for her studies.

Evelyn is particularly impressed with the Intellectual Property (IP) laws courses in her programme. "The courses are very helpful and offer me an insightful perspective on IP law practice in New Zealand and worldwide," she says. She also values the social events organised by the faculty, which enable her to connect with professionals in the legal field and gain a clearer understanding of the industry.

As an international student, Evelyn has found the support from lecturers and staff at the University of Auckland to be exceptional. "The lecturer and staff are all supportive and helpful. One of my favourite professors even arranges a time for me to meet him almost weekly to discuss my puzzles during study," she shares.

Evelyn has been pleasantly surprised by “the chill environment. Now whenever I feel tired, I will just pack up my mat and lie down underneath the shade of a tree. It feels like all the anxiety will fade away and you can move on," she notes, making a positive change in her life.

Since arriving in New Zealand, Evelyn has embraced new challenges, including driving for the first time. "I am proud of myself and appreciate my courage back then because driving does give me a lot of freedom and convenience."

The most significant change for Evelyn since transitioning to study at the University of Auckland has been her mindset. " I became more proactive in learning and curious about the topics that I am studying," she reflects, making her more engaged and motivated in her academic pursuits.
