Fredrick William Hennings

As an international student from Fiji, the University of Auckland was his number one choice to pursue his Bachelor of Arts degree in in Anthropology and Classical Studies & Ancient History.

“The variety of courses offered in my programme has specifically narrowed my interest into the path I have dreamt of taking, and so far, I have never regretted my decisions. My current experience at the University has been great, thanks to its many facilities that provide students the accessibility and space to enhance the learning experience. Being part of activities, clubs and workshops in the campus has given me the opportunity to get more involved in the university.”

When speaking on he enjoys about living in Auckland, Fredrick has credited the ease of access to our parks and beaches to unwind, and to remind him of home.“My advice to those who are thinking about studying at the University of Auckland is to take the opportunities offered by the university because it will help you learn and excel in your character.”

Something that surprised Fredrick about New Zealand was “the extensive use of bilingual signage which is really good as it maintains and acknowledges the Māori identity in Aotearoa,”

In transitioning to university life, he has found that “time management has been a big change since starting here to remain productive in between classes”. This has helped him balance his time with his part-time job at the Auckland Memorial Museum where he has been able to develop his interpersonal skills while assisting visitors, a skill which he hopes will help him further his future career in anthropology.
