Sim Sher Yie
Sherry comes from Malaysia and is an awardee of the University of Auckland ASEAN High Achievers Scholarship. She is studying a Master of Business Analytics and hopes to pursue a career in digital marketing.
Sherry’s scholarship has been incredibly important in helping her achieve her dreams. "It not only provided financial support, making it possible for me to study abroad, but also recognised my academic achievements, which motivated me to strive for even greater success. It allowed me to focus on my studies and professional development without the financial strain”.
She chose the Master of Business Analytics course as it allowed her to specialise in Marketing, aligning with her career aspirations in digital marketing. “The Business School's triple crown accreditation assures high academic standards and credibility. My sister also had a positive experience as an alumna and the serene environment of New Zealand made it the ideal place for my academic and personal growth”.
Sherry’s experience as an international student has been very positive. "The postgraduate lounge and study areas are excellent and easily accessible. I also appreciate the diversity of my classmates from various countries and backgrounds, which enriches our learning experience and helps us understand different cultures."
Support provided by the business communication team has been valuable to her academic success. "They offer an extra course that helps us with assignments and exams, develops professionalism and strong English communication skills."
A big change for Sherry since transitioning to the University is her increased comfort and confidence in speaking with people and enjoying being around others. "The diverse and inclusive environment has encouraged me to participate more actively in class discussions and group projects. The exposure to different cultures and perspectives has broadened my worldview and enhanced my adaptability."
Being part of the University of Auckland Women in Business Club has been a great experience for her as there are “numerous events that help develop our interests and provide opportunities to network with top companies through jointly organised events."
Sherry finds life at the City Campus incredibly convenient, with easy access to public transport and plenty of nearby eateries. "The campus itself offers excellent facilities that support both learning and leisure. You feel like you're studying right in the city's heart! The facilities are top-notch and convenient, such as the student lounge which with microwaves and seating areas if you prefer bring your own lunch.
