Klara Gerken
Klara found motivation and adventure during her studies at The University of Auckland.
"My home University, Philipps Universität Marburg in Germany, was a partner with the University of Auckland. It was a good choice for me and I really liked the offered classes! Besides the classes, for me the chance to study at such a modern high standard Uni was another nice aspect.
"I really enjoy the practical in-person aspect of the university, with lots of field trips and the possibility to do weekend hiking trips around Auckland! Auckland city Campus is well equipped and very nice and central with an amazing museum close by and lots of great clubs to meet people.
"My courses and lecturers made me realise once more why I actually study Earth Sciences, so it pushed my motivation to study. The focus on practical experience is very good job preparation. My semester abroad also helps me to learn new practical skills and get different views on topics that might be viewed differently in Germany. There is also the chance to connect with a lot of interesting people, which I have really enjoyed!
"My experience in Auckland will help me a lot, as I improve my spoken and written English on an academic level, I will see the benefits when I start my career back home.
"If you can, be brave enough to study abroad and take in all the experiences. If you can, meet locals and make Kiwi friends to actually experience New Zealand in the way it is to live here."
