Matilda Stensiö
Matilda travelled from the University of Granada in Spain to the opposite side of the world!
I wanted to be away for a year (and not only a semester) and go as far away as
possible! One of the options available was Auckland and it sounded really interesting.
I’ve always wanted to see this part of the world and New Zealand is known for its beautiful nature and for being very “outdoorsy”, which was one of the main reasons that I chose this destination.
I really like that it’s a big city and all the opportunities that come with that, all the different people, cultures and food options all in one place. I was expecting it to feel bigger, but the city centre is so walkable and I love it!
I absolutely LOVE my courses! They are a lot more niche and I feel like I’ve learned a lot already, especially in my ethno - political violence class!
As a sociology student I think going abroad and experiencing other societies and cultures is essential to gain new perspectives and credibility, as that is our area of study.
Also having done my study abroad in an english speaking country is seen as a
huge plus on the job market!
