The Award was established in 2020 and is funded by the John Weeks Memorial Trust in collaboration with the Auckland University Students' Association.

The main purpose of the Award is to support students commencing creative Bachelor studies in the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries who have demonstrated the potential to succeed but are experiencing hardships or who may have been disadvantaged due to personal circumstances.
