Programme overview
A BA/BGlobalSt conjoint allows you to complete a BA and a BGlobalSt in less time than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.
Our interdisciplinary Global Studies programme will expose you to new ways of thinking about the world, develop your competence in another language, and grow your understanding of other cultures and perspectives.
By combining this with a BA, you can deepen your understanding of global issues through a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, cultures and languages.
Information for students located outside New Zealand
The Bachelor of Global Studies, including conjoint programmes, is not available to new students wanting to start this programme and study online outside New Zealand. Admissions will re-open to new international students when New Zealand border regulations permit travel to New Zealand and in-person study on campus.
Students who have already started the Bachelor of Global Studies may continue in the programme while located outside New Zealand, but there may be a limited number of courses available online.
Programme structure
The BA/BGlobalSt usually takes four years to complete.
You will need to complete a total of 540 points, consisting of:
- 255 points from BA courses
- 255 points from BGlobalSt courses
- 15 points from General Education
- 15 points from Waipapa Taumata Rau core course
You can choose either one or two majors for the BA component of your conjoint, and would normally take four or five BA courses each year. You can also choose to take up to two modules.
If you are a new student studying an undergraduate degree with us in 2025 you will most likely need to complete one General Education course and one Waipapa Taumata Rau course.
To find out more about structuring the BA side of your study, see planning your BA conjoint.
You will choose from one of four majors for the BGlobalSt component of your conjoint:
- Global Environment and Sustainable Development
- Global Politics and Human Rights
- International Relations and Business
- Transnational Cultures and Creative Practice
You will also take core courses in Global Studies and study a language and a related area of the world. To find out more, see the Bachelor of Global Studies.
You would usually enrol in eight 15-point courses (120 points) each year. If you want to complete in four years, you can enrol in nine 15-point courses (135 points) each year (including Summer School). Enrolling in five courses in a semester is not advisable for Global Studies students. You need to maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.5 each year to continue with your conjoint.
Most students need to take one General Education course.
Students should also be aware of the University’s Academic English Language Requirement.
