Undergraduate study in Criminology

Criminology is not just about crime. By studying for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Criminology, you can explore the wider issues that affect punishment and criminal justice, as well as topics such as:

• Prisons and corrections
• Violence and drugs
• Crime and popular culture

You can investigate the social, economic, cultural, political and legal determinants of criminality. You can also examine attempts to control crime both locally and internationally.

You can take a major in Criminology as one of your two BA majors (a double major). You will need to pass at least 120 points (eight courses) towards each of your majors, including at least 45 points (three courses) at Stage III.

You will take Sociology courses at Stage I and Criminology courses at Stage II and III.

Explore the undergraduate courses you can take as part of a major in Criminology. You would normally take Stage I courses in your first year, Stage II in your second and Stage III in your third.

Required courses for students first enrolled 2018 to 2021
You must pass the following courses as part of the Criminology major:

• 15 points from CRIM 201 or CRIM 202
  
• CRIM 301 and CRIM 302 (a concession is in place to allow you to select another stage 3 CRIM course to be taken instead of CRIM 302 which is no longer offered)
  

Required courses for students first enrolled from 2022
You must pass the following courses as part of the Criminology major:

• CRIM 207
• CRIM 301
