The areas of study include:
- Imaging anatomy, physiology and pathology
- Professional issues in medical imaging
- Image evaluation
- CT imaging
- Fundamentals of nuclear medicine and PET-CT imaging
- PET-CT technology and its application
- Patient care in the imaging environment

Courses
Courses in this subject area are offered in a flexible learning format (online delivery). In addition to the academic courses, assessment of clinical competency will occur in the student’s workplace throughout the duration of the student’s enrolment within this programme.
Entry requirements
To gain admission to the PGCertHSc(PET-CT) a student must:
- Have completed a qualification in medical imaging or an approved undergraduate degree
- Hold current registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB)
- Confirm that they have secured employment in a clinical training position approved by the Programme Director (or delegate)
Where can postgraduate study in PET-CT take you?
Students who successfully complete the PGCertHSc(PET-CT) programme, will be eligible to work at clinical sites providing PET-CT imaging services.
This qualification is a New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) approved pathway for registered practitioners to extend their scope to limited practise in PET-CT. Students who successfully complete the requirements for this programme, including clinical competency assessments at an approved workplace, will be eligible for registration with the MRTB to extend their relevant scope of practice to include PET-CT.
If a graduate of the PGCertHSc(PET-CT) programme secures a clinical training position in nuclear medicine within five years of completing the certificate, they will be able to credit the PGCertHSc(PET-CT) into the PGDipHSc(Nuclear Medicine) programme and complete just the remaining courses and clinical assessment components of the nuclear medicine programme.
