Programme overview

With a growing demand for skilled project managers both within New Zealand and globally, the PGDipEPM will help you develop the ability to apply the principles, concepts and ideas that define project management across a range of industries.

As a graduate of this programme, you’ll be well-equipped to apply these principles to real-world scenarios with a critical and reflective approach. You’ll also be eligible to apply for registration with the Project Management Institute (PMI).

For more information about this programme, please contact us.

Programme structure

The PGDipEPM is a 120-point taught programme suited to students who are interested in pursuing a qualification in engineering project management exclusively through taught courses. It is available to study both on-campus and online.

This programme can also serve as a pathway into our existing Master of Engineering Project Management (MEPM) programme – a popular qualification which is offered both on-campus and online. Like the MEPM, the PGDipEPM has an optional specialisation in Health Projects.

Note: The Health Projects specialisation is only available on-campus due to unavailability of online courses from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Of the 120 points required for the PGDipEPM, you will need to complete:

Core (45 points):
ENGGEN 730 Management Skills for Project Professionals

and

ENGGEN 731 Agile and Lean Project Management
ENGGEN 742 Project Management

or

ENGGEN 740 Project Management Bodies of Knowledge (30 points)

And an additional 75 points from:

  • Other courses listed in the Master of Engineering Project Management schedule, excluding dissertation, research portfolio and research project courses.

or

  • Other courses approved by the Programme Director in one of the specialisations listed in the Master of Engineering Project Management Schedule, excluding dissertation, research portfolio and research project courses.

Note: With the prior approval of the Programme Director or nominee, up to 30 points may be replaced by other appropriate 600 and 700-level courses offered at the University of Auckland or another university.

You'll also need to meet other requirements, including time limits and total points limits. See Postgraduate enrolment.

For all official programme information, including regulations about entry, enrolment, fees, examinations, and requirements for degrees, diplomas and certificates, see the University Calendar.
