“I am a fourth-year student, and I study Law alongside my Global Studies degree. My major is Global Politics and Human Rights.
“I studied Spanish for five years in high school, and I wanted to continue with my language learning and learn more about the world. So, I studied Spanish and Latin America through my Global Studies degree and absolutely loved it.
“Global Studies is a welcome relief from my law papers, which can be a bit content-heavy. It’s nice to explore the creative side and learn more about the world, different perspectives and how we can solve global problems.
“Global Studies is a community of learners that work together. We draw upon everyone’s unique backgrounds, both before coming to university, as well as the experiences and skills that we gain at university to solve global challenges.
“I particularly like the co-curricular aspects that enhance my Global Studies degree, and that includes the Global Studies Student Society, AUGSS. It has been really nice to network with other Global Studies learners and have fun.
It’s nice to explore the creative side and learn more about the world, different perspectives and how we can solve global problems.
“I’ve really valued learning different knowledge systems and learning that the Western knowledge paradigm, a phrase that you’ll hear many times, is not necessarily the right one; it’s just one of the ways to look at the world.
“I love the flexibility that Global Studies brings to my career prospects. After university, I hope to work for a few years at a law firm and then carry these legal skills across to the public sector. I hope to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and eventually go on to being a foreign diplomat, strengthening relationships between countries.
“I would recommend you put absolutely everything into your Bachelor of Global Studies. There are so many opportunities out there, and you have to take advantage of them in order to reap the rewards. You’ll love it!”
