Leif Fernandez
The broadness of the degree allows Leif to develop a wide range of skills.
Key facts:
Programme: Bachelor of Global Studies/Bachelor of Commerce
Major: International Relations and Business/Chinese
“I chose International Relations as my major because of the broadness I find it offers. You will study economics, international trade and politics courses, so you really develop a wide range of skills. I had a keen interest in international trade, and I thought it would be a great combo to pair with my specialisation in Chinese.
“When I graduate, I would like to work in the public sector, either as a financial advisor or in a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
“I chose to study at the University of Auckland because of the University's reputation. Plus, there is the added convenience of being so close home, which was a big advantage to me.
“I'm part of the University of Auckland Global Studies Society. It’s the official student body of Global Studies students and as the Vice President, I'm in charge of strategic planning and the representation of our students. We offer mentorship and social events to help develop a community and get Global Studies students involved.
“The best part of being a Global Studies student is being part of a community where everyone is included and accepted. The people you meet along the way are really kind and sweet, so you develop long-lasting friendships. Get stuck in and meet new people. You never know who your best friend could be.”
