Programme overview

This postgraduate programme prepares you for a career as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist.

Clinical Exercise Physiologists are allied health professionals who design and deliver exercise for the prevention and management of chronic health problems such as musculoskeletal issues, diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.

You will complete clinical placements at sites like the Health and Rehabilitation Clinic, undertaking supervised work experience needed to gain professional registration.

Entry Requirements

You must have completed a Bachelor of Science from this University, with a Grade Point Average of 4.0 or higher and a major or specialisation in Exercise Science, or another relevant subject, or the equivalent prior study.

Part 1: Theory

  • 60 points: EXERSCI 719 - 721, 724

Part 2: Practical Learning

  • 90 points: EXERSCI 776-778

Part 3: Research Methods

  • 30 points: EXERSCI 722, 723 or 781A/B

A blend of theory and clinical practicum focused courses are delivered sequentially across three terms of study to support translation of acquired knowledge and skills to clinical practice. Active learning and teaching methods are used to foster development of critical thinking, clinical reasoning and independent learning. A key component of this internationally accredited programme is completion of internal and external clinical placements to acquire a body of supervised clinical work experience that meets or exceeds requirements for professional registration.

Where can a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology take you?

MClinExPhys graduates will be knowledgeable and skilled Clinical Exercise Physiologists eligible for registration with national and international professional organisations to prescribe exercise and health behaviour interventions to improve functional capacity and promote physical activity in people living with chronic health conditions.
