SPSS Core Skills

SPSS is used extensively by academic researchers as a tool for quickly analysing quantitative data.

This SPSS Core Skills workshop provides a hands-on introduction to the essential functions of the software, helping participants confidently set up SPSS data files, conduct statistical analyses (including graphs), and manipulate files and variables.

Key topics

  • Creating a new data set and entering data into SPSS
  • Importing data from sources such as Microsoft Excel
  • Defining variable properties, including value labels and missing value codes
  • Performing data transformations (e.g., computing and recoding variables)
  • Calculating descriptive statistics and other statistical procedures
  • Introduction to charts and graphs

        Workshop format

This is a practical, hands-on session where attendees will work with example datasets provided by the facilitator. No prior statistical knowledge is required, as the focus is on using the software rather than statistical theory.

        Important notes

This workshop is designed for researchers who need to analyse statistical data and require a user-friendly statistical package. It is suitable for both new and existing SPSS users.

SPSS 29 will be used during the session. Please note that this course focuses on the software itself and does not cover statistical theory. If you require an introduction to statistics, Academic Consulting offers relevant courses.
