Word Thesis Formatting
This workshop focuses on the essential tools needed to format a thesis or dissertation using Microsoft Word. It is designed for those who are already comfortable with Word’s general formatting tools but need to apply them effectively for thesis production.

- Using the University’s thesis templates
- Managing document sections and page numbering
- Applying and modifying styles
- Creating and updating a Table of Contents
- Using captions to generate tables of figures, tables, or equations
- Inserting and updating cross-references (headings, figures, tables, etc.)
- Troubleshooting tables, graphics, and other formatting issues
Workshop format
Attendees will work on examples provided by the facilitator. For in-person workshops, participants are encouraged to bring a USB stick to save their work.
After the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to request assistance with formatting their own thesis. This optional additional hour is recommended for those who need further guidance on applying the techniques covered.

- This is a general formatting workshop and does not provide personalised or one-on-one thesis support. For specific thesis-related guidance, students should consult their faculty or supervisor(s).
- Word 2016 will be used (also suitable for 2013 users).
- For in-person workshops, PC computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
