New Start financial support
New Start students are not eligible for a student loan or allowance from Studylink. However, the University of Auckland offers other ways to finance your study.
New Start University Preparation Award
This award offers up to $700 paid as a tuition fees credit.
Margaret Tudor South New Start Award
An award to assist women students who are enrolling in the New Start programme.
This award offers up to $700 paid as a tuition fees credit.
James LeGallais New Start Award
An award to assist male students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents enrolling in the New Start programme.
This award offers up to $700 paid as a tuition fees credit.
New Start Fee Assistance Scheme
This scheme has a limited number of places. In return for the assistance, you may be asked to help with administration during the semester period of the programme (not during Summer School).
Closing dates for Auckland applicants
- Semester One: 31 January
- Semester Two: 30 June
Closing date for Tai Tokerau Whangarei applicants
- Summer School: 1 December
Students facing financial hardship are encouraged to apply for this scheme. When applying for New Start, complete the online scholarship application form.
