A snapshot of heart mechanics research at ABI
Originally published: 1 November 2017
Watch our heart mechanics research team illustrate their breadth of work on multi-scale cardiac imaging and physics-based computer modelling of the heart. They use these approaches to investigate the basic mechanisms of heart function and dysfunction. The overall goals of using these personalised models are to improve diagnosis and management of cardiac patients, and to educate people about the different types of heart problems, risk factors and therapies.
The video is built into the team's 3D heart demo, which is currently on show as part of the Brave Hearts pop-up exhibition. The exhibition is presently hosted by Auckland's Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) until 31 January 2018, after which it will travel to Waikato and other locations in New Zealand, before returning to Auckland University of Technology in late 2018.
