Integrating Artificial Intelligence with Augmented Reality for Neurorehabilitation: Advancing Solutions for Spatial Neglect

Masters Project

Post-stroke spatial neglect, impacting a substantial proportion of right hemisphere stroke survivors, poses a formidable challenge in neurorehabilitation, often leading to prolonged hospital stays and unsatisfactory outcomes with conventional therapeutic approaches. Our project endeavours to develop an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) intelligent training program to address the multifaceted dimensions of spatial neglect rehabilitation. Rooted in the principles of explorative action training, this program will harness state-of-the-art technologies to deliver personalized interventions and immersive experiences tailored to individual patient needs. Utilizing Flutter for development, the AR application will seamlessly operate across both iOS and Android platforms, ensuring broad accessibility and usability. Additionally, integration of Vision AI will augment user interaction through intelligent object detection, facilitating real-time feedback and enhanced engagement. Leveraging Unity's AR Foundation, encompassing ARKit and ARCore, will introduce immersive augmented reality elements, fostering a dynamic and captivating rehabilitation milieu. This holistic and patient-centred approach holds promise for revolutionizing post-stroke spatial neglect rehabilitation, offering a pioneering solution to address current therapeutic limitations and enhance patient outcomes.

Desired skills

Ideal candidates for this project should have proficiency in Flutter for interface development. An understanding of Vision AI and its application in object detection is preferred. Familiarity with Unity and its AR Foundation, specifically ARKit and ARCore, is beneficial for implementing the augmented reality features. Basic programming skills in languages such as Dart (for Flutter), and experience in AR development will be beneficial. This project offers an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in the convergence of mobile development, AI, and augmented reality for healthcare applications.
