Age discrimination
Discrimination on the basis of age is unlawful under the Human Rights Act of 1993.
- You do not have to provide your age as part of a job application or interview process.
- You do not have to retire at any specific age such as 65 years and an employer cannot force you to leave because of your age.
Any questions about an employee’s work should focus on performance and not assumptions or stereotypes about age.
The act also covers recruitment, provision of learning and development, workplace programmes and conditions, and exit procedures.
