The Mooting Society
The Mooting Society at the University of Auckland is a student-run organization that aims to develop the advocacy skills of law students through mooting competitions.
Mooting has been described as the most useful extra-curricular activity law students can engage with while at University. In essence, a moot is a mock court trial where students prepare for, and present on a legal issue.
The society organises six annual moots, providing law students with the opportunity to develop their advocacy skills and experience the thrill of mooting. In addition, the society offers How to Moot workshops that provide training on various aspects of mooting, including legal research, advocacy, and oral presentation. The workshops are open to all law students, regardless of their level of experience. The Mooting Society is a valuable resource for law students at the University of Auckland who are interested in developing their advocacy skills and pursuing a career in law.
Through the Mooting Society students have access to:
- Mooting competitions (including International Moots),
- Seminars with Judges, QC’s and other respected practitioners,
- Opportunities to practice (and receive feedback) prior to compulsory moots, and
- A wide array of resources including how to moot seminars, exemplars, general mooting tips and more!
