Reapplying for LLB Part II
If your application for LLB Part II is unsuccessful, you can continue with your current degree and reapply at the end of the next academic year. There is no limit to how many times you can apply.

If you have already been admitted to LLB Part I
If you have already been admitted to LLB part I, you do not need to reapply. However, if you wish to improve your grades in LAW 121G, LAW 131 and/or LAW 141, you can repeat these courses under a Certificate of Proficiency (COP).
If you’ve already met the minimum grade requirements, repeating these courses Is not necessary.
2026 LLB Part II Requirements
To be eligible to be considered for selection into LLB Part II 2026 onwards, you need:
- LLB Part I Courses: You must pass LAW 121G and pass LAW 131 and LAW 141 with at least a C+
- WTR Course: You must pass a the 15 point Waipapa Taumata Rau (WTR) course relevant to your non-law degree
- Non-Law Courses: You must have completed at least 75 points of non-law university degree courses at bachelor’s level or above, excluding courses ‘Pass/Fail’ courses (including the WTR course)
- Overall GPA: You must have passed all eight courses (120 points) with an overall average GPA of at least 3.00 (C+)
The LawGPA required for admission will be determined by the Law Selection Committee in December of the year prior to admission. Please note that entry requirements may change each year and are finalised when approved by the University Council.
Note: Students who began their programme before 2025 and do not have a WTR course as part of their programme must complete another 15-point non-law course instead.

2026 LLB Part II LawGPA Calculation
For entry into LLB Part II starting in 2026, the LawGPA will be calculated based on the following courses and criteria:
- LAW 121G – single weighted
- LAW 131 – double weighted
- LAW 141 – double weighted
- Recent most, best 60 points from non-law university courses at bachelor’s level or above (excluding WTR courses and pass/fail courses) – single weighted
Note: The "recent most, best 60 points" refers to non-law courses completed in the most recent academic year (e.g., Summer School 2025 to Semester Two 2025).
If you have repeated any LLB Part I courses (LAW 121G, LAW 131, LAW 141), only the highest grade for each course will be considered, with all other grades excluded.

Grades Not Considered in LawGPA Calculation
When applying for LLB Part II, the following grades will not be considered towards your LawGPA:
- Courses with ‘Pass/Fail’ grades
- ‘Withdrawals’ (W) received from 2023 onwards
Note: If you have a W grade for LAW 121G, LAW 131, or LAW 141 and have not previously passed the course, you will not be eligible for consideration for LLB Part II.
Important: If you take a ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’ grade course, you must take another 4 15-point courses non-law course to make up for the points to ensure you meet the 75 points non-law requirement which will include the WTR course.

LawGPA and Reapplication
Admission into LLB Part II is purely based on your LawGPA. If you repeat any of the LLB Part I courses, the best grade you have achieved in those courses will be factored into your LawGPA. Other grades from the same courses will be disregarded.
If you complete additional non-law courses, the recent most, best 60 points of non-law university courses will be taken into consideration.

Re-enrolling after failing LLB Part I courses
If you did not pass LAW 121G, LAW 131, and/or LAW 141, you can re-enrol. A third-time repeat requires special permission. To request permission, complete the online form, with the following information:
- Reasons for not passing the course previously
- Whether assignments were not submitted and why
- Steps taken to improve your chances of passing
- Supporting documentation for any circumstances mentioned
WTR Requirement
If you began your programme before 2025, you are not required to complete a WTR course as part of your degree. If you have already enrolled in a WTR course, please drop it before the enrolment deadline to receive a full refund.
Changing Programmes in 2025?
- If you reassign 120 points or more to your new programme, you may apply for a WTR exemption.
- If less than 120 points are reassigned (e.g., changing from a BA to a BCom or from a BA/LLB to a BCom/LLB), you must complete a WTR course.
Future Programme Changes
From 2026 onwards, if you change your programme, including switching from a double degree to a conjoint (e.g., BA and LLB → BA/LLB), you must complete a WTR course as part of your new programme requirements, regardless of how many points are reassigned.

Impact on Conjoint Degrees
If you do not repeat any courses or change majors, being admitted to LLB Part II later in your studies will not delay the completion of a conjoint degree. In some cases, you may be ahead in your other degree requirements and may finish them first.

If you no longer wish to continue with the LLB Programme
