Law and literature between Philippe Sands and Daniel Kalderimis ​

Two lawyers who are also academic lawyers also find the time to write books.

In this session lawyer, academic and author Daniel Kalderimis KC will interview Philippe Sands, lawyer, academic lawyer and author about the books he has written. ​

Speakers

​​Philippe Sands, KC FRSL Hon FBA is a British and French writer and​barrister at 11 King's Bench Walk and Professor of Laws and Director​ of the Centre on International Courts and Tribunals at University​ College London.

He appears as counsel and advocate before many​ international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of​ Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the​ European Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights and​ the International Criminal Court.​

Daniel Kalderim is a leading barrister who lives with his family in​ Wellington. He has lived in New York and London, taught at​ Columbia University, and practises internationally, including as an ​English barrister at Twenty Essex.

With degrees in law, English and​ philosophy, he has always been interested in unravelling the layers​of meaning behind ordinary things. His 2024 book, Zest: Climbing ​from Depression to Philosophy, is about what happened when​ that search, in his own life, became pressing rather than a pastime.​​
