Professor David McLauchlan's teaching and research has been a crucial part of the New Zealand intellectual landscape for over 50 years.
Now he is coming to Auckland to deliver his final official lecture. In it he will discuss the latest Supreme Court decision on contractual interpretation, Bathurst Resources Ltd v L&M Coal Holdings Ltd [2021] 1 NZLR 696 distinction.
David asks whether this decision has broken down the traditional distinction between the principles governing formation of contracts and those governing their interpretation and if the decision should be welcomed.
