Corporate Law at a Crossroads: Reforming the Companies Act
Join us on Wednesday, 4th December to discuss the government’s proposed Companies Act reforms aimed at modernising and clarifying company law to ensure it is clearer, more effective, and fit for purpose.
In August 2024, the government announced a package of reforms aimed at modernising and clarifying company law to ensure it is clearer, more effective, and fit for purpose. The proposed changes are designed to make Aotearoa New Zealand a safer and more business-friendly environment by deterring poor business practices while reducing the compliance burden on businesses.
The reforms are to occur in two phases:
- Phase 1: Corporate governance reforms and other non-legislative improvements
- Phase 2: A Law Commission review of directors' duties
The proposed reforms aim to modernise, simplify, and digitise the Companies Act, introduce a unique identifier for company directors and general partners, improve outcomes for creditors, and enhance the adoption and use of the New Zealand Business Number (NZBN).
This conference will feature presentations from leading academics, practitioners, and other key stakeholders, offering their insights and reflections on the proposed changes.
Date: Wednesday, December 4
Timing: 8:45am - 5pm NZDT
