The Right to Housing and Disasters: Lessons Learned from Canterbury?

A public lecture presented by Associate Professor Natalie Baird

This presentation will explore how the right to housing is impacted by disasters. It will look at the impact of the Canterbury earthquakes on the right to housing, including the fact that disasters typically have the biggest impact on those who are already vulnerable. The presentation will also consider what lessons might be learned from the Canterbury experience in terms of better protecting the right to housing in the aftermath of a disaster. And, it will consider why it is that Aotearoa New Zealand has not yet learned those lessons.
